Depending on which Amazon.com merchant you buy this mini Displayport to VGA adapter from, you might get different looking products. I've posted pictures of the adapter received from merchant 'Sound Around' and another from HDE. For both, my order arrived quickly.
My first adapter was ordered from Sound Around. My original review (at around 10+ days of ownership) stated that it was working just fine. The plastic material is of fair-to-equal quality compared to the original Apple-branded adapter. Unfortunately, about 2 months later, it has started to fail. I suspect the reason has to do with the cable, which is thinner than the Apple-branded version. It could also be due to the fact that I have to plug/un-plug this unit 5x a week.
In any case, I decided to give the generic adapters one last try... This time ordering from HDE, since I saw a couple positive reviews. When I received it, I was pleasantly surprised that this one looks nearly identical to the Apple-branded adapter (I've uploaded a new product picture). It has been working well so far and compared to my previous generic adapter, this one provides a slightly better, clearer, picture. I will update the review if anything changes...

Great value, functions flawlessly so far, shipped super fast, and they even threw in some extra goodies like a key chain LED light, and a screen cleaning cloth. Next time I need a dongle I'm looking to HDE first. Forget all that noise that is apple, who in their right mind would pay thirty dollars for one of these.

It does what it is intended to do. I'm glad I didn't pay the extra dough for the Apple-branded version.

I bought this adaptor just because I knew that there would be a good alternative to apple's products which are grossly marked up. It worked perfectly the first time and every time since. It looks just like any other apple product including the little display symbol.

This adapter does exactly what it's supposed to do. I use it every day to do a powerpoint in class & I've never had a problem. I have a June 09 macbook.
